David Armstrong

David leads on the CQI’s work to re-position the quality profession, and has been instrumental in creating the CQI’s Competency Framework based on Governance, Assurance and Improvement.

After graduating, David worked briefly in the banking sector before returning to work for GEC-Marconi as a Systems Engineer and then progressing into more senior Systems Management and Project Management Roles.

After a period as Software Group Manager, David received his first Board appointment, as Business Improvement Director. As part of this role he assumed Directorate responsibility for Quality.

After two years working as the UK Business Improvement and Quality Director at MBDA, David left to take up a position as Group Head of Engineering at BAE Systems, Customer Solutions and Support, where he worked to drive capability improvements. In 2006 David moved onto Selex Galileo as UK Head of Engineering Improvement and in 2007 he was appointed Vice President of Quality UK for the expanded Selex ES business.

In 2013 David decided to leave the Aerospace and Defence Industry to pursue his interests in developing the quality profession and its unique value proposition for the enterprises it serves. As well as working at the Chartered Quality Institute as Head of Profession, he is also a Non-Executive Director at University Hospital Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.
